All of the Above

I’m struck by the competing visions at work in our readings for Sunday January 4, 2009, which we will celebrate as the Epiphany of our Lord.

Isaiah 60 (1-6), tells us, “Arise, shine!  Your light has come…nations will come to your light…”

Matthew 2 (1-12), explains about the Wise Men’s instructions from Herod, “Go and search diligently for the child…”

And in Ephesians 3 (1-12), Paul proclaims, “In former generations this mystery was not made known to humankind..that is, the Gentiles (foreigners) have become fellow heirs, members of the same body, sharers in the promise of Christ Jesus…”

So, what is this story of God all about?

a. Is it a homecoming (Isaiah)?

b. A new adventure we embark on (Matthew)?

c. Or God’s mystery, that somehow, thru Jesus, is revealed to all humanity (Ephesians)?

I’m going to choose:

d.  All of the above.freephotos.se-footprints

Prayer for the Week

Lord of the path, be our guiding star, our companion on the journey, and our gracious homecoming too.  Amen.
