November Sun School Offering

November = Camp Noah!

Sun School Offering this month helps elementary-age children in the US whose communities have suffered a disaster.

Camp Noah began in 1997 as a response to flooding in the Red River Valley (North Dakota and Minnesota), and it is headquartered right in our backyard: Albert Lea, MN!

Camp Noah has been to Rushford, MN following floods, Oklahoma following tornadoes, and all over the country–including several places after Hurricane Sandy…and to Newtown, CT.

Camp Noah provides a safe, caring and fun environment where children build resiliency skills within the familiarity of their own communities, using a proven curriculum designed to help children process their disaster and/or trauma experience through creative activities and play.

Camp Noah celebrates every child as special. In this safe and supportive setting, children are encouraged to face their fears, grieve their losses, identify and share their unique gifts and talents, and plan for an amazing future.

First Lutheran Sun Schoolers, please bring any listed items forward during offering each Sunday, all month long.

New Thoughts, New Year, New Presiding Bishop

elizabeth-eatonPlease take a few moments prior to our Annual Meeting (January 19, 2014) to read this article by our new Presiding Bishop of the ELCA, Elizabeth Eaton.  She asks wonderful, important, thought-provoking questions…questions that every Christian congregation can be asking about their life together.

Then, take a few moments to thank God for your elected leaders–your council members and volunteers who may be finishing their terms, those continuing their terms, and those just beginning their terms of service.  How can we be church, together, this year?  Whatever our dreams and visions reveal, what a privilege we have to be in ministry as one body of Christ.
